Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most frequently asked questions that we are asked by clients and prospective clients.

Q. How much are legal fees in civil cases?
A. If you would like us to prosecute a case we may be willing to accept it on a contingency fee, which means that you do not have to pay any legal fees unless a recovery is made. If we do not recover anything then you do not have to pay us anything.

Q. How does it work if my case is not done on a contingency fee?
A. In these situations our legal work is usually done on an hourly basis and a retainer may be needed. This is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Q. I don’t live in Houston; will you still consider taking my case?
A. Yes. Our firm represents people in many different cities, counties and states.

Q. When I meet with you the first time, what do I need to bring with me?
A. You will need to bring any documentation, records, m
edical bills, notes, photographs, video, or contracts that you have that relate to your case. If you are not sure whether or not something is related to your case, it is best to err on the side of caution and bring it.

Q. How long before you decide whether you will take my case?
A. Usually after we meet with you/talk with you the first time we will need to do a little research and evaluate your case and/or the documents that you provided to us. This usually takes us a few days in most circumstances. When we have completed our preliminary research we will know whether we are able to accept your case. If we are not able to accept your case we will let you know at the same time and – if you ask – we will try to provide you with the name of another attorney or law firm that might be able to help.

Q. How long will it take to go to trial?
A. This can depend greatly on where the case is filed and its complexity. Sometimes courts can move quickly, sometimes it may take a year or more.

Q. Will you talk to me before my case settles?
A. Absolutely. It is your decision to make and we will never settle a case without your express permission. We will offer you advice and guidance, but the decision to settle or resolve a case is yours and yours alone.

Q. If there is a trial, do I need to be there every day?
A. Yes. You will need to be in court every day.
